A unique place for parties and small gatherings….

Two weeks ago, I had the opportunity to throw a little party to celebrate “Bookigee” (www.bookigee.com) and gather up some of our enthusiastic cheerleaders and supporters. It was a great big thank-you for some and an intro for others.  This literary party turned out great and I still have perma-grin from it’s success.

A few things contributed to the evening.  Kristen McLean, my partner and colleague at Bookigee, delivered an educational chat and an upbeat view of the future of publishing and reading.  The audience of friendly faces had that “special Tryon sauce” of bright questions, positive energy, eclectic backgrounds and conversational mastery.

The third ingredient was the WONDERFUL location.  Newly available as a rental space option, Thompson’s Garden Gallery and Outdoor Living (downtown Tryon on Palmer Street) provided the backdrop to the entire evening.  Owners Erin and Cory Thompson have truly made a delightful space.

The gallery and retail store are open during the week and Saturdays. The mix of design elements (including twigs and branches that arch over the main room) are pitch-perfect.  Local artists’ work hanging on the walls, unique seating arrangements (inside and outside) and organic, agricultural elements create a simple but lovely atmosphere without being cluttered or over-the-top.

Great food and wine space +  Great conversation and traffic flow + economical pricing = a no-brainer decision for intimate events.  Our Bookigee literary party had approximately 40 attendees.  The outdoor space would be lovely for a sit-down dinner, too.  Book groups.  Momma get-together.  Business-afterhour cocktails.

If you don’t need to throw an event now, remember this for the future.  And surely, don’t forget to stop by and look at the store/gallery itself.  Florida-based Kristen picked up the sweetest little bird necklace for her daughter.   Jewelry, sturdy outdoor tables, yard umbrellas, unique pottery and large art instalations — there is something for every shopper.

Tell them the 828 sent you.  We would be thankful.
