Dark City Deli
The Dark City Deli & Pub 2.16.14
Friend & I ventured up to Black Mountain this weekend to look at art and see what else we could find. It’s been sometime since I visited Black Mountain, they have a great mix of old and new items in shops. I really enjoy the town. I like to ask locals where we should eat and got 2 suggestions from the guy working at Kilwin’s Chocolate’s. Ole a Mexican place and The Dark City Deli. Ole was praised for their fresh chips and made at the table guacamole but Dark City won out when we heard handmade burgers.
At first glance the Deli looks really small, but just past the entryway the restaurant opens up into a tidy dining room with exposed brick walls covered in art. The dining room curves back to a rustic bar area. DCD has at least 12 different beers on tap and a nice wine selection. Don’t forget to taste Pisgah Brewing Company’s selections, their brewery is in Black Mountain.
Dark City is best known for freshly made sandwiches, Panini’s, burgers and daily specials.
We ordered two burgers and split them so we could give a better review. The Dark City Burger, served with cooper cheese, lettuce, tomato, sprouts and special sauce. The waitress compared the sauce to a thousand island/blue cheese mix… I disagree but it was good. Our other choice was The Blue Ridge Burger; caramelized onions in a port wine reduction, lettuce, tomato and sprouts with a Gorgonzola spread and Blue Cheese Crumbles. THIS was fantastic, I would recommend this one for your first trip. We also ordered fries and a glass of wine. Great lunch!
The waitress suggested their fresh made brownies or cookies. But we are Gluten Free so no brownies for us. Check out Dark City’s cooler for gourmet meals to go. Selections change daily.
The service was great very friendly and attentive. You can also find Dark City deli on Facebook.
As we left town we stopped by Dynamite Coffee Roasters. This coffee bar and roasting house is not to be missed, I really don’t think I’ve ever had a better Iced Mocha Latte in my life. We’ll plan another trip to Black Mountain as soon as the weather breaks. I would like to check out the many hiking trails, and try some more Black Mountain eating & drinking!
