The Fam and I took a drive through Lake Lure and on into Hendersonville to get The Boy some driving hours. Yes it’s almost that time…Driver’s License season a mother’s nightmare! Parking can be a bear in Hendersonville (get it, bear in Hendersonville ha ha) so we were pleased to see an open spot near Mezzaluna’s. It was a particularly cold day so we ducked in fast.
Mezzaluna is a rustic but pretty restaurant in downtown Hendersonville. They have a beautiful brick oven and are well known for their pizzas and appetizers. Unfortunately they haven’t added a Gluten Free pizza crust to the menu yet…so I have nothing add on the pizza subject. We sat in the bar area, so we were about to catch some of March Madness.
We began our meal with an order of Mussels and Chorizo in a Tomato Saffron Butter. I only got one, the boys made quick work of that plate and sopped up the sauce with some great smelling bread. The Boy then ordered The Pan Fried Carolina Trout with Grill Asparagus & Mashed Potatoes. Husband & I shared one of the daily specials and boy was it special! A Mills Family Farm Grass Fed Filet Mignon with Sirah reduction on a bed of Sautéed Kale, Mashed Potatoes & Kale pest, we also ordered house salads since we were sharing.
Honestly this steak was so tender and full of flavor it was fantastic, we were elbowing each other for the last couple of bites. Husband pared all this loveliness with Hi-Wire Brewing’s (Asheville) Pale Ale, the Boy chose Sweet Tea locally brewed of course! And I really enjoyed the Genoa Cabernet suggested by our very friendly and knowledgeable server Cory. What a pleasure to find a server who really likes her job and was helpful with selections.
Check out Mezzaluna on Facebook for upcoming events and don’t be shy about asking us to go with
